Garage Door Repair in Vancouver: Tracks, Cables, Rollers, Panels

Old single doors that drag in lane garages and doors knocked off track by a car are the two repairs we do most in Vancouver. We fix both, plus cables, rollers and seals.

  • Most Vancouver door repairs cost $200–$500
  • Repairs typically take 1 to 3 hours
  • Old lane-garage doors often drag because of worn rollers and bent track
The short answer

Garage door repair in Vancouver usually costs $200–$500 depending on the parts, and most jobs take 1 to 3 hours. Common calls are old single doors in lane garages that stick or drag, doors off track after a car clipped them, worn rollers and torn bottom seals from the damp. Replacing a dented panel costs more and depends on whether matching panels are still made for your door.

  • Leave an off-track door alone and unplug the opener
  • Damp weather wears rollers and bottom seals all year

Sticking and dragging doors in lane garages

Many detached garages off Vancouver lanes are older single-car buildings, often with the original door. Over time the rollers crack or flatten, the hinges loosen, and the track bends where it's been bumped. The door starts to stick, drag or grind, and the opener has to push harder every time.

We replace worn rollers (nylon rollers run much quieter than old steel ones), tighten or replace hinges, straighten or reset the track and lubricate the moving parts. If the door is past saving, we'll tell you plainly. Tight lane access can make this harder to stage, so let us know how to reach the garage.

Doors off track after hitting a car

A car backing out with the door partway down, or a bumper meeting the bottom panel, is one of the most common ways a Vancouver door comes off its track. It ends up hanging crooked, sometimes with a cable off the drum.

Don't try to use it. Leave it where it is, unplug the opener and keep people and cars away. An off-track door can fall. We set the door back in its track, straighten or replace bent sections, re-seat or replace the cable and check the springs. Dented panels can sometimes be swapped if the maker still produces that model and colour.

Wet-weather wear: rollers and seals

Most of Vancouver's rain falls from October to April, and mature street trees on the west side keep many yards shaded and damp. That damp wears rollers and bottom seals year-round. A torn or flattened seal lets water and leaves in under the door, and a gap on one side when closed usually means the seal is worn or the floor is uneven.

Replacing the seal is a quick job. On an uneven floor, a thicker seal may help. A yearly tune-up to check balance, lubricate parts and test the safety reverse catches these problems early.

FAQ

Questions homeowners ask

My door came off its track. Can I still use it?

No. Leave it where it is, unplug the opener and keep people and cars away. An off-track door can fall.

Why does my old lane-garage door grind and drag?

Worn steel rollers, loose hinges, dry bearings or bent track are the usual causes. New nylon rollers and lubrication often make a big difference.

Can one dented panel be replaced?

Sometimes. It depends on whether the maker still produces that model and colour. On old doors, a new door may be the only clean fix.

How much does door repair cost in Vancouver?

Most repairs run $200–$500 depending on the parts. Replacing a damaged panel costs more.

How do I stop water coming in under the door?

A worn or torn bottom seal is the usual cause, and replacing it is quick. If the floor slopes unevenly, a thicker seal may help.
