Remotes, Keypads and Smart Openers in West Vancouver

Smart opener setups are one of the most common requests we get in West Vancouver. We also pair remotes, fix keypads and clear lost remotes from the opener's memory.

  • Most remote and keypad jobs: $100–$300 including the device
  • Usually done in 30 minutes to 1 hour
  • Smart controllers need a usable Wi-Fi signal in the garage
The short answer

Remote and keypad programming in West Vancouver usually costs $100–$300 including the device, and takes 30 minutes to 1 hour. We pair new remotes and car buttons, replace outdoor keypads, erase lost remotes, and install smart controllers so you can check and close the door from your phone. Smart installs depend on the opener and on Wi-Fi reaching the garage, which can be weak in big homes on long driveways.

  • Lost remote: clearing the opener's memory locks it out
  • Bring your opener's brand and model for a universal remote

Smart control for large homes and long driveways

Many West Vancouver houses sit well back from the street on big, steep lots. The garage may be at the bottom of a long driveway or tucked under a deck, far from the router. That makes it handy to see from your phone whether the door is closed, and to close it from the car or from another floor of the house.

A smart controller works with many openers made in the last 15 to 20 years, though compatibility varies by brand and model. The other requirement is Wi-Fi. In large homes in the British Properties, Altamont or Caulfeild, the signal often fades before it reaches the garage. We check the opener and the signal before quoting, and tell you if a network extender is needed first.

Remote range, car buttons and keypads

If a remote only works when you're right outside the door, start with the battery. LED bulbs in the opener and some other electronics can also interfere with the signal.

Car buttons are a frequent call. Newer openers use rolling-code systems, and some cars need an adapter to pair with them. The steps differ by car and opener brand, so we work through it on site.

Outdoor keypads on waterfront homes from Ambleside to Horseshoe Bay take salt air and rain all year, and contacts can corrode. Up the slopes of Cypress and Hollyburn the rain is heavier still. A failed keypad is usually replaced rather than repaired.

Lost remotes and newly bought homes

If a remote goes missing, or you've just bought a house and don't know how many remotes are out there, we clear the opener's memory. That erases every paired remote and keypad. Then we pair the ones you still have.

Universal remotes work with many openers but not all, so give us the opener's brand and model and we'll bring one that fits.

FAQ

Questions homeowners ask

Can I add phone control to my current opener?

Many openers from the last 15 to 20 years can take a smart controller, but it depends on the brand and model. The garage also needs a usable Wi-Fi signal, which we check on site.

Our remote only works at the end of the driveway. Why?

A weak battery is the usual reason. LED bulbs in the opener and other electronics can also block the signal. Try a fresh battery first.

We lost a remote. Can someone still use it?

Not once the opener's memory is cleared. That erases all paired remotes and keypads, and then we re-pair the ones you still have.

My car's built-in button won't pair. Is it the car or the opener?

Often both. Newer openers use rolling codes, and some cars need an adapter to work with them. The steps depend on the car and opener brand.

How much does it cost?

Most remote and keypad jobs run $100–$300 including the device. Smart controller installs depend on the opener and the Wi-Fi in the garage.
