Garage door opener repair in Maple Ridge costs $150–$400 for most jobs and takes about 1 to 2 hours. Openers failing in the cold is a common call: doors frozen shut after snow, springs breaking in hard frost and worn rollers that make the door drag. We repair openers in Haney, Albion, Silver Valley and out to Whonnock, and check the door and springs on every visit.
- Doors frozen to the floor after snow make openers hum or reverse
- Worn rollers add drag that wears out the opener's gears
Openers failing in the cold
When outflow winds bring hard frost and snow, a garage door gets stiff, the grease thickens and the bottom seal can freeze to the floor. An opener asked to move that door may hum, reverse or quit partway.
If the door is frozen down, stop pressing the button. Free the seal or wait for a thaw. If the door still won't lift, a spring has likely broken. Maple Ridge sees a jump in spring breaks during cold snaps, and an opener can't lift a door that has lost a spring. On winter calls we check springs, seals and opener together.

Older homes in Haney and Hammond
Haney and Hammond have some of Maple Ridge's oldest homes, and many still run older doors and openers. Gears strip, sensors fade and boards fail. A worn opener may also be paired with a door that has worn rollers and drags in the track.
We fix the opener part that failed and replace worn rollers if they're adding drag. Openers made before 1993 lack safety reversing sensors and should be replaced. For newer units, we'll compare repair and replacement costs when the part is a big one.
Silver Valley townhouses and rural shops
Silver Valley's newer townhouses usually have modern openers. Repairs there are often sensors, limits or remotes, and the strata sets door rules, so like-for-like repairs are easiest.
Toward Whonnock and Thornhill, rural properties often have detached garages and shops. Openers out there get damp, cold and long wire runs, which shows up as intermittent faults. Most repairs run $150–$400, and the brand and rough age of the opener help us bring the right parts.

Questions homeowners ask
Why won't my opener lift the door after a snowfall?
The seal is probably frozen to the floor, or a spring broke in the cold. Stop pressing the button, free the seal gently, and call if it still won't move.
Why does the door go down and come right back up?
Usually the safety sensors are out of line, dirty or blocked. Ice at the threshold or a wrong close force or travel limit can also cause it.
The opener hums but nothing moves. Is it the motor?
More often a stripped drive gear or a broken spring. If a spring is broken, don't keep pressing the button.
Can I lift the door by hand?
Pull the red emergency release cord and lift. If it feels very heavy, a spring may be broken and you should leave it.
What does opener repair cost in Maple Ridge?
Most repairs run $150–$400 depending on the part. On an old opener needing a major part, replacing it can make more sense.
